Following a long, successful career in finance, Nadia Cavner has redirected her efforts to humanitarian causes. A few of the causes Nadia Cavner has supported include breast cancer awareness and higher education.
According to a World Health Organization (WHO) report, breast cancer remains the most common type of cancer found in women worldwide, impacting more than 2 million individuals annually while taking approximately 627,000 lives, or 15 percent of all cancer-related deaths in women. Breast cancer rates remain highest among women living in developed nations, though the rate of diagnosis is increasing around the world.
When it comes to breast cancer survival, WHO is a strong proponent of early detection and intervention. The most effective methods of intervention include regular screening and detecting the disease at its earliest stages, the latter of which can be achieved, in part, through education and self-examinations.
That said, not all elements of early detection and intervention are limited to personal health. Women, as well as men diagnosed with breast cancer, should have immediate access to quality healthcare services, a mission the organization seeks to achieve through the WHO Package of essential noncommunicable (PEN) disease interventions, which establishes guidelines for medical facilities in low resource areas.
