For over two decades, finance professional Nadia Cavner presided over her successful investment firm, which was based in Springfield, Missouri. Today, Nadia Cavner is an active philanthropist who is heavily involved in a range of multinational causes. In June 2018, she joined 600 governmental and organizational leaders and officials to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA), a reception hosted by the the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom.

IRFA was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1998. Presented before Congress by Oklahoma Senator Don Nickles, IRFA served as a counter to the growing restrictions on religious freedom in many countries around the world, including Russia, China, and South Sudan.

The act strengthened the ability of the United States to monitor, record, and address violations of religious freedom around the world by requiring U.S. Embassies to file annual reports on the state of religious freedom in their respective countries.

The report identifies nations with widespread issues of religious persecution as Countries of Concern, which can be subjected to sanctions and other political responses if their violations are not addressed.
