Tibetans<\/a><\/strong> continue to strive for independence, though many of them now live in exile. Increased surveillance and a strict crackdown on religious activity have made it more difficult to continue the battle within China. Residents of Tibet are finding it more difficult to criticize the Chinese government\u2019s actions and policies due to persecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dalai Lama provides profound positive guidance and leadership to the Tibetan people. Any political movement leader\u2019s personality has a critical role in molding the struggle. The Dalai Lama\u2019s uplifting spiritual aura has spread across the Tibetan resistance movement. Despite his enormous power over Tibetans and their politics, he considers himself a simple Buddhist monk rather than a political leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After establishing the government in exile, the Dalai Lama re-established the roughly 80,000 Tibetan refugees who had accompanied him into exile in agricultural settlements. Despite initial armed uprisings and subsequent harsh persecution by Chinese authorities, the Tibetan resistance movement has remained nonviolent, following the Dalai Lama\u2019s peace-oriented strategy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
